徐霞客在昆明的时间不长，其中他坐船驶入滇池去晋宁拜访云南艺术家担当的片段，让艺术家记忆尤为深刻。那个时候昆明人的生活总是与水、与滇池与船息息相伴，文化的交融也是如此。草编菱角是老昆明官渡一带即将失传的手工艺品，也是昆明传统的民间玩具，是艺术家及历代昆明人对于故土，对于童年的最直接记忆。这个作品用草编菱角构筑成运载徐霞客的船，通过这样一个线索，唤起人们对今天赖以生存的环境以及各种文化交融的思考，从而重新审视家园乡愁和故乡之美。

 Famed Ming dynasty travel writer Xu Xiake was in Kunming for only a short time, but the story of his boat trip across Lake Dian to Jinning to visit the Yunnan artist Dan Dang left a particularly deep impression on her. The lives of Kunming’s residents were intricately tied to water, to Lake Dian, and to boats in those days, as it was for cultural fusion. The grass triangle is a craft tradition found around the Guandu area that has been nearly lost, a traditional folk toy in Kunming that embodies nostalgic childhood memories for many Kunmingers. This artwork constructs Xu Xiake's boats out of grass triangles, using this thread to inspire reflection on our environment and various cultural confluences, and thus to reexamine nostalgia and yearning for the beauty of home.

Nie Xindi ws born in 1994 in Kunming. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2017, and currently lives and works in Beijing. Her work as an artist and designer spans a broad range, and she frequently explores different creative languages. She is active in art events and exhibitions in New York, Beijing, and London.
