我的主要工作是城乡遗产保护。昆明是我国第一批国家历史文化名城,非常著名,但我一直没有机缘深入了解这座城市,了解滇池。因为这次策展的需要,我翻阅了关于他的历史书并与当地人交流,参观了博物馆,登上了西山山顶,走访了滇池边的村落,推开一幢幢传统民居的大门,在每一次滇池的夕阳和彩云面前感动欢喜。然后,我就被这块神奇的土地所折服了,怀着无比谦卑和崇敬之心,开始了滇池风土艺术季的策展工作。同时我们策展组也深感荣幸,有机会用这样一场艺术的盛宴,致敬这块古老的土地和千百年生活于斯的人们

滇池是伟大的,丰富的,这里不仅是五亿年前昆明鱼的故乡,也是千百年来昆明人的乡愁之地。特别在上世纪初,随着滇缅铁路的修建和西南联大的入驻,中西文化在这里交流,多民族在这里融合,文化多样性和生物多样性一样精彩,为我们留下了丰富的自然文化遗产,塑造了完美的山、水、人,和谐共生的滇池景观。

所以“风”是指文化,“土”是指环境。

我们为艺术季起名叫做“滇池风土艺术季”,正是希望通过这两个字来捕获大家的关注:保护滇池的环境与文化遗产,特别是那些正在消失中的传统村落和传统生活方式。过去20年的变化是巨大的,有的甚至是破坏性的,但我们也看到人们已经意识到,滇池亿万年来形成的山水格局、千百年来形成的地方文化,才是这个地方的“魂”。滇池的风土不应该被所谓城市化所侵蚀,保护滇池的风土就是保护了家园和未来,这也成为我们第一届艺术节主题“家园与未来”的由来。

我们邀请近120位艺术家,从去年夏天开始,陆续来到这里进行驻地创作,他们每个人都成为一扇门,通过作品和他们身体力行的介入,让更多人了解滇池的故事,关注地方的发展,共享滇池的文化。艺术介入遗产保护和地方重塑,从来没有像今天这样活跃,希望我们的艺术季开启的不仅仅是一场艺术的盛宴,更是滇池的新日常。

2024滇池风土艺术季 主策展人

My main job is urban and rural heritage conservation. Kunming is very famous as one of the first group of National Historical Cities in China, but I have never had the chance to get to know the city and Dianchi lake in depth. Because of the needs of this festival, I went through the history books about him and talked with the locals, visited the museums, climbed to the top of Xishan Mountain, visited the villages beside Dianchi, pushed open the door of a traditional house, and was moved to rejoice in front of the sunset and colourful clouds of Dianchi every time. Then, I was overwhelmed by this magical land, and with great humility and reverence, I began the curatorial work of the Dianchi Terroir Art Season. At the same time, our curatorial team is deeply honoured to have the opportunity to pay tribute to this ancient land and the people who have lived here for thousands of years with such a feast of art.

Dianchi is great and rich. It is not only the home of Kunming fish five hundred million years ago, but also the place of nostalgia for Kunming people for more than thousands years. Especially in the early last century, with the construction of the Yunnan-Burma Railway and the entry of the Southwest Associated Universities, the Chinese and Western cultures exchanged here, and multi-ethnicity merged here, the cultural diversity is as wonderful as the biological diversity, which left us a rich natural cultural heritage, and shaped the perfect landscape of mountain, lake, people, and the harmonious coexistence of the Dianchi lake.

So the character“风”refers to the culture, and the character “土” refers to the environment.“风土(Customs and Folkways)”means natural conditions and social customs of a place。

We have named the season "Dianchi Art Season" in Chinese, precisely because we want to capture people's attention through these two words “Customs and Folkways”: to protect the environment and cultural heritage of Dianchi, especially those traditional villages and traditional lifestyles that are disappearing. The changes over the past 20 years have been enormous, some even destructive, but we have also seen that the local people have come to realise that the landscape pattern of Dianchi, which has been formed over billions of years, and the local culture, which has been formed over thousands of years, are the "soul" of this place. The “Customs and Folkways” of Dianchi should not be eroded by the so-called urbanisation. Protecting the “Customs and Folkways” of Dianchi means protecting the homeland and the future, which is also the origin of the theme of the first art season, "Homeland and Future".

We have invited nearly 120 artists to come here one after another for residencies since last summer, and each of them has become a door for more people to understand the story of Dianchi, pay attention to the development of the place, and share the culture of Dianchi through their works and their physical interventions. Art intervention in heritage protection and place remodelling has never been as active as it is today. We hope that our art season will open not only a feast of art, but also a new daily life for Dianchi.

大约五个月前,我被邀请为滇池艺术季挑选一些艺术家。当然,选择的问题很重要,但我们必须确定选择的理由。是的,艺术家的质量是第一位的,但是,在艺术季中,有非常不同的观点也很重要。这意味着不同的媒介,也意味着不同的方法和不同的观点。在我的现况中,选择并不容易,因为很多西方艺术家想要与这样一个场所发生联系。许多欧洲艺术家都渴望在中国被曝光,并展示他们的才华。中国不再是一个新兴国家。她有一个强大和独立的基于三千多年文化的艺术体系。我必须考虑到语言上的障碍。艺术家将在独自或借助很少帮助的情况下,在陌生环境中生活和工作。

在不太了解主策展人需求的情况下,我决定选择两位艺术家,她们的作品不同于欧洲和中国的其他艺术家。事实上,这个选择并不难。 但这是一个“艺术季”的条件。下次不会相同,在其他地方也不会相同。地点、时间和艺术家的结合给了我们这个令人惊叹和独特的结果,我们应该珍惜。

About five months ago, I was asked to help choose some artists for Dianchi Art Season. Of course the question of choice is important, but one has to qualify the reasons of the choice. Yes the quality of the artist is first, but, in a festival, it is also important to have very different points of view. This means different media but also different approaches and different point of view. In my case the choice is not easy because very many Western artists want to be associated to such a venue. Many European artists are eager to be exposed and to show their talent in China. It is not anymore an « emerging » country. China has a strong and independent art production resting on a culture more than three thousand years old. And I have to take in consideration the language barrier. The artist will be on his own, or with little help, to live and work in a foreign environment.

Without much knowledge of the curators desire, I decided to chose two artists, different from what other artists, in Europe and in China, are working on. The choice was , in fact, reasonably easy. But this is the condition of a “festival”. It shall not be the same next time, nor would it be comparable in another location. The combination of place, time and artists give us this amazing and unique result that we should cherish.
